Guide to GCSE Food Technology (Edexcel)
The Department is offering one short and three full D & T courses, which meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Full courses will be offered in D & T: Food Technology; D & T: Resistant Materials; and D & T: Graphic Products. Additionally a short course will be offered in D & T: Graphic Products.
These are all ‘design and make’ courses with the emphasis on product design. Over the duration of the course you will gain theoretical knowledge, practical skills and understanding within your chosen area and you will be encouraged to apply your knowledge through practical projects. Additionally you will learn how to work with the medium and materials in sufficient depth to enable you to design and make quality products.
You will learn to analyse a problem or situation, carry out research and present information in a variety of different media including ICT. You will develop skills that will help you to produce solutions to problems. You will learn to test and evaluate your solutions and provide suggestions to modify and improve them.
In carrying out coursework projects you will develop organisational and planning skills.
Assessment for both the full and short courses is through:
Course work 60%
Written paper 40%
Success in these courses can provide the opportunity for further study at A or AS Level.
