About our school

Partnership with parents

We rely on and value the support and involvement of parents in order to enable each student to develop her talents to the full.  Good communication between home and school is vital in the development of this partnership.  Informal contact is encouraged by means of daily homework diaries and by monthly newsletters.  We also send a copy of the Home-School Contract  to all new students.

Each July an Assessment Calendar is issued giving parents details of the pattern of reports and consultation evenings for the following year.  Parents are informed of progress by an annual written report, together with the results of internal examinations and reviews.

Parent Consultation Evenings, at which, from Year 9 on, students are encouraged to be present, give an opportunity for parents to meet staff and discuss their daughter's progress.  If staff have concerns about a student, her parents will be contacted to ensure that together we provide any support needed.

If parents have queries or concerns about the curriculum or about any school matter, the school office will arrange an appointment with the appropriate member of staff.  If the matter is not resolved in this way the appropriate complaints procedure, available from the school office, should be followed.  Many internal publications and official documents are available to parents on request, including information booklets for new students, GCSE and 16+ Curriculum Choices Booklets, Subject Programmes of Study and the Governor's Annual Report for Parents.

Parents are encouraged to attend school functions and to become involved in the organisation of extra curricular activities.  All parents are members of our Parent's Association, whose support we find invaluable.  The PA Committee meets regularly and organises fundraising and social activities to help the school.  Parents interested in helping should contact the Chairman via the school office.

Inevitably a school budget is never sufficient for the many demands made on it.  Consequently we ask parents to make an annual contribution to the School Fund.  This is used to finance some of the extras which add to the quality of school life but which fall outside county provision.  Uses include membership fees for various societies, sports affiliations and tournament entries, provision of newspapers and telephones for students' use.  The fund also pays a personal accident insurance premium to cover each student engaged in activities in and out of school.
