Guide to Community Sports Leadership Award (Central Council for Physical Recreation)
The CSLA gives all those over 16 years of age the opportunity to train and provide voluntary assistance alongside qualified coaches or teachers, thereby increasing their own knowledge, confidence and experience. The lessons occur once a week from September to July. The CSLA is a practical qualification with emphasis upon a practical approach to learning and is included in some professional qualifications leading to careers in sport and recreation. It is particularly useful for anyone intending to seek employment working as part of a team and leading and organising others. The cost of the log book for this course is £10.
There is also an opportunity for all those taking the course to gain a first aid qualification, funded by the school. As part of the CSLA course we also take part in the Ecclesiastical Insurance Top Link and Millennium Volunteer programme, which is a new sporting initiative run by the Youth Sports Trust and encourages young sports leaders to lead others in sporting events and festivals.
There is a weekend trip which takes place at a weekend in October or November. The group go to an outdoor centre at Bowles, near Tunbridge Wells and do activities such as climbing, abseiling, high ropes, night course and initiative activities. The cost is approximately £100 and students will need to commit themselves with a deposit at the start of the Autumn Term. The cost includes all tuition fees, accommodation, meals and use of equipment.
