Experience through work is central to developing students’ employability skills and enabling them to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for progression into their future career of choice.
In Year 10 we send girls out into the workplace in a “Take your Daughter to Work Day”. This is followed through with them designing and making a presentation on what they have learned. The presentation is made to peers and to their English teacher and this forms part of their GCSE English Oral GCSE examination.
In July of Year 11 students go out on a week’s work placement. Students disperse mainly to organisations over London and the South East but some go further afield. This is a wonderful opportunity for those students who have ideas regarding a possible future career to gain experience and confirm their choice of career pathway. Others take the opportunity to widen their experience and gain transferable skills.
Sixth Form Work Experience and Community Work helps to build students’ skills, it strengthens their CVs and contributes to the AQA Baccalaureate which students sit in Year 13.
