World Book Day
The LRC had a busy and enjoyable time around World Book Day this year. With the Sixth Form and Mrs Weston we ran a Kids Lit Quiz. Each form in Years 7 and 8 entered a team in the heats. Year 9 couldn’t quite muster the same enthusiasm but the three teams taking part competed fiercely. The winners from each heat took part in the final on World Book Day, March 3rd. 7LMK emerged victorious, narrowly outscoring 8SBY and 9DF.
On 1st March we were visited by author and poet Val Bloom, who, in addition to a poetry recital and two workshops, met students and signed books and autographs at lunchtime in the LRC. To quote our Year 8 reviewer “She astounded us all and everyone found it enjoyable, educational and inspiring.”
On 2nd March Year 8 came costumed as a favourite character from literature. The standard was high and members of Y13 had the difficult task of visiting each group and choosing three finalists to parade in the LRC at lunchtime. The ultimate decision as to the awards was shared between the LRC, English and the Sixth form representatives. There was discussion but agreement was reached and “The Joker” was a unanimous first place.
At the same time a second hand book sale was held to raise money for Book Aid International.
