Sparks

Students Pursuing, Acquiring and Retaining Key Skills

Sparks is a two year cross-curricular course which develops creativity and enquiry based learning. Students are encouraged to pursue their own lines of enquiry and to combine skills from several subject areas. They explore real issues and they produce work which has a genuine purpose and audience.  Throughout the two years, each student records the development of her personal, learning and thinking skills.

Year 7

A combination of Geography, History, Maths, English, Science and Learning to Learn allows the students to respond to six Big Questions, the first of which is How do I know who I am?

Visits to Rochester and to Canterbury allow the students to place their learning in context, and events such as the Gallery in October and the Coffee Morning in March offer parents the chance to view the work of their daughters.

Year 8

Here we combine Technology, Art, Music, Science, Drama and Modern Foreign Languages to encourage the students to look again at the world around them. Personal projects are developed in response to local visits and visiting artists; puppet shows with scripts written in French, German and Spanish are taken out to primary schools; and languages are learned in the context of the country’s history and culture.
